October opening for pool

¶ COLLIE Shire has confirmed it expects the Mineworkers’ Memorial Pool to open in October for the summer season.
WorkSafe’s investigation into a chlorine gas leak at the pool, which led to the hospitalisation of a staff member and the early closure of the pool for the season earlier this year, is ongoing.
However, a WorkSafe petroleum safety and dangerous goods spokesperson confirmed the investigation will not prevent use of the pool.
“WorkSafe’s investigation into the Collie Mineworkers’ Memorial Pool is continuing and the date it will be completed has not been established,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson did not directly respond to a Bulletin question about whether the investigation is expected to be concluded soon.
The leak, causing the closure of a section of Throssell Street, is believed to be the first of its kind in the state.
Fire and Rescue Service crews were dispatched after multiple triple zero calls were received, and a specialist team was flown by helicopter from Perth to deal with the incident, which took hours to bring under control.
WorkSafe previously confirmed the initial phase of its investigation was completed, but said it could take up to half a year for its full completion.
