Late rain delivers dam boost

¶ WELLINGTON Dam water levels have received a welcome boost courtesy of late winter rain.
The dam is currently holding 88.88 gigalitres, up from 85.02 gigalitres this time last year, and is at 48.1 percent of capacity.
At the end of July, Wellington was holding 68.49 gigalitres, with a little over 20 gigalitres added in the month to date.
However, water levels are down substantially on previous years.
In August 2023, the dam was holding 109.09 gigalitres, in August 2022, 141.36 gigalitres, and in August 2021, 147.81 gigalitres.
Water levels climbed significantly throughout September last year, with 104.23 gigalitres recorded.
Harris Dam levels are substantially down year on year.
Harris is holding 15.46 gigalitres, and is at 21.5 percent of capacity, down from the 19.77 gigalitres recorded this time last year.
The dam is at its lowest August level in the last eight years.
Glen Mervyn Dam is at 52.7 percent of capacity, holding 1.17 gigalitres, up from 0.65 gigalitres this time last year.
Mungalup Dam is also up on last year at 75.1 percent of capacity, holding 0.51 gigalitres, up from 0.47 gigalitres year on year.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts a 40 to 45 percent chance of exceeding the median rainfall in Collie from August through to October.
