Land development remains a shire focus

¶ COLLIE Shire is continuing to explore land release and development initiatives despite being unsuccessful with a recent Federal Government funding submission.
Shire development services director Alex Wiese informed councillors at their August meeting that the land subject to the application was at the bottom end of Riley Road.
A number of initiatives have been looked at, shire chief executive officer Phil Anastasakis said.
“We have been as officers working with various government agencies to look at different ways for us to partner with them to try and fast-track the release and development of further land in the townsite,” Mr Anastasakis said.
The shire has met with DevelopmentWA to identify the “opportunities for development in the townsite”, Mr Anastasakis said.
Opportunities could exist to work with either the state or private developers, he added.
Shire president Ian Miffling said council staff are “currently looking at a lot of our reserves”, some of which he said are underutilised.
At a future point, a council workshop could explore the amount of reserves in greater depth and how they could be utilised, Cr Miffling said.
Councillor Dale Hill-Power put forward the “left-field” idea of developing a golf course estate.
“It was talked about a number of years ago,” Cr Miffling said.
“There were a lot of issues involved with that.”
