COLLIE’S Just Transition is an example of a “well prepared” transition, according to Emeritus Professor Roy Green.
Prof Green was in Collie this week to consult on the Net Zero Economy Authority’s Energy Industry Jobs Plan Review, supporting workers impacted by fossil fuel power station closures transitioning to new employment.
“I think Collie got ready well in advance,” he said.
“The Just Transition Working Group is also a great example of how different interests and representative bodies can work together with government and the power stations themselves.”
Prof Green met with working group members, Collie Delivery Unit and State Government officials, and Mining and Energy Union and Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union representatives.
A report will be developed following consultations being undertaken throughout the country, seeking to strengthen Federal Government support for impacted workers.
“The point that we want to make is that the Net Zero Economy Authority is not wishing to substitute what is done here locally,” Prof Green said.
“What we want to do is add value where we can.
“At a federal level we’re here to look at where the gaps potentially are and support greater coordination within all government agencies.”
The report is due in December.
