COLLIE Eagles league captain Talan Michael says he took “great pride” in being asked to design the team’s jumpers for the SWFL’s Indigenous Round.
Michael said he is “a proud Noongar man, born and raised on Noongar land”.
“With the help of my partner Mima and the incredibly talented Ziggy Maxwell we were able to put pen to paper and create something that honours our club,” he said.
Michael said of the design that the wedge-tailed eagle is known for its territorial behaviour, defending its hunting ground and home. The wedge-tailed eagle design features shields displayed, hunting boomerangs supporting the wings, the footprints of kangaroos, the Collie River running through the hills, and the Aboriginal colours displayed on its heart.
“With the women and men gathering as one we battle and defend our nest,” he said.
“May we hunt like eagles, jump like roos, have flow like the river, run like it's all downhill and bring home the shield.”
