¶ Women fall short in grand final

¶ THE Collie Basketball Association’s division three women’s team put in a great performance at the Country Basketball Championships in Perth on the weekend, going down in the grand final against Busselton.
Collie started their campaign well, winning their two early morning Saturday games.
Collie took the first against Waroona, 26 to 19, and then accounted for Busselton, 28 to 22.
With only one game to play on Sunday, Collie put it all out there against Karratha, taking a handy 21 to 16 lead into half-time.
Karratha came back to draw the game with 10 minutes to go, but points to Courtney Webb and Milla Harker stretched the lead to six before a last second three to Karratha, with Collie securing the win, 31 to 28.
In another early morning hit-out against Albany, Collie dominated to post a 42 to 15 win.
Webb and Harker top scored with 11 each, and Kate Abbott contributed six.
Collie played Albany once again in their semi-final, with the girls continuing on with their good form to take a four-point lead into the main break.
But Albany would not lie down and regained the lead, with the scores remaining close, before Collie got on top to take the win, 29 to 25, securing a grand final berth.
Webb scored 11, Harker eight, and Ruby Fraser and Addison Stone four each. Busselton scored the first four points in the grand final and worked hard to secure a nine-point lead. But Collie fought back and led by one with four minutes left in the half.
Busselton lead 23 to 14 halfway though the second term, and Collie had to really dig deep to get to within five points. Collie was ultimately unable to bridge the gap, going down 25 to 19.
Harker scored seven, Ruby Fraser four and Webb three in a disappointing end to a great carnival for the whole team.
Harker top scored in the division with 66 points, and Courtney Webb finished third with 41.
