¶ AN UPDATE on the progress of the Collie Roundhouse development is “expected” by the end of the financial year.
Plans to “reactivate” the historic building and precinct were unveiled in 2021, headed up by Be Our Guest Holdings, owner of the Dome cafe brand, however updates have since been few and far between.
Be Our Guest was selected to work with the State Government and the National Trust of Western Australia in delivering a “unique vision” integrating public space, parklands, adventure play, landscaped bushland, accommodation options and spaces for events.
The South West Development Commission (SWDC) previously advised a masterplan was expected to be completed in the first half of 2024.
However, a year down the track it has yet to be finalised.
In response to a recent Bulletin query, the SWDC did not comment on whether the progress made to date is satisfactory.
Be Our Guest “continues to progress the details on the master planning”, a spokesperson advised.
The government remains engaged with Be Our Guest as they “progress to completing these works”, the spokesperson added.
While a project update is expected by the end of the financial year, it was not confirmed if the masterplan will also be finalised at this time.
The project is of significant interest for the Collie community, encompassing revitalisation of the roundhouse area, which remains cordoned off to public access, at the western end of town.
It is proposed to extend to the Collie Visitor Centre, and could include craft food and beverage options, a cafe and bistro.
