¶ GROUND is expected to be broken at the Riverview Residence retiree units redevelopment within the next month.
The proponents put out a call for quotes from local contractors for services including earthworks, power and plumbing works at the end of March and are waiting on final submissions.
Riverview chief executive officer Mark Sheldon-Stemm told the Bulletin financial arrangements are being finalised, after which the developers will be able to draw down on $2 million in State Government funding.
The initial works, part of stage one of the development, will prepare the site for delivery of 12 units, constructed by Modular WA in Perth.
“We’ll develop the pads for the units to sit on,” Mr Sheldon-Stemm said.
“We’re hoping that the units will be available probably around October or November.”
Mr Sheldon-Stemm said a meeting with current residents will inform them of the progress and schedule over the next few months.
Collie Shire Council approved a development approval application for stage one of the redevelopment at its March meeting, subject to a number of conditions ahead of a building permit being sought.
Council had previously granted approval in March 2022, however the proponents revamped their plans in the interim following a cost blowout, which resulted in a new approval being required.
Tenants at the current site are ready to move in ahead of stage two, which would involve demolition of the old units, Mr Sheldon-Stemm told council at the meeting.
A meeting with the Southwest Design Review Panel at the end of January resulted in design revisions being made to the development’s streetscape character, pedestrian connections and the landscaping.
Overall development of the site is planned to be carried out over four stages, comprising 35 units, a clubhouse and visitor carparking.
