Renergi update on the way: Council to receive report on status of $10.4 million centre

¶ COLLIE Shire Council will receive a report on the status of Renergi’s $10.4 million Collie Resource Recovery Centre later this year.
At council’s August meeting, councillor Brett Hansen asked for an update on the project, which has been in commissioning over the last two years.
Shire chief executive officer Phil Anastasakis said officers have been meeting regularly regarding the matter and plan to bring a report to council, likely in the next three months.
Construction of the plant was completed in April 2023, however commissioning has been a long and complex process.
Former shire chief executive officer Stuart Devenish last year said “unforeseen” delays had been encountered during the process.
Renergi last month advised that the centre’s pyrolysis plant was being run for increasing lengths of time and that the centre could be operational by the end of the year.
Once operational, it will convert solid rubbish and biomass wastes into bio-oil, biochar and wood vinegar.
The project has received State and Federal government funding, including an Australian Renewable Energy Agency grant of $4.3 million.
