Over-50s are happy in new home

¶ THE Collie Over-50s Social Club staged its first meeting at its new premises in the Collie Eagles Football Club’s John Sheppard Clubrooms on Tuesday.
It marks the beginning of a new era for the club after it outgrew its former home at the Collie Scout Hall.
Club president George Logue said the club is very grateful to the Eagles for allowing it use of the clubrooms.
Mr Logue said the arrangement will be mutually beneficial, with the club prepared to help out when required.
“Everything’s going well and everyone is enjoying themselves,” he said.
“We’ve got 60 people in today, and it looks like we’re just going to get bigger and bigger.”
Mr Logue thanked Collie Shire councillor Brett Hansen for his efforts assisting the club in its search for a new location.
He also thanked local businesses Phoenix Glass, Collie Betta and Timeless Treats and Treasures for supporting the club with donations.
The club’s search for a new location led to it asking Collie Shire Council for assistance in May.
Over-50s member Patrick Honeywell told council the club had “extensively explored various options around town”.
Approaches were made to Senior Citizens about use of the Margaretta Wilson Centre on Tuesdays, however an arrangement could not be reached.
Other venues looked at included the Collie PCYC, Roche Park Recreation Centre, Energy West Social Club Hall and the North Collie Hall.
