Get in quick for Treebate

¶ OWEN Ash encourages Collie residents to take advantage of the WA Government’s Treebate program.
Under the program, residents aged over 18 who purchase a native tree from a local nursery can claim up to $150.
Up to 10,000 residents per year over the next four years will be able to claim the rebate via the ServiceWA app.
Mr Ash praised the government for what he described as a “stellar” initiative.
“We have a warming climate, it’s getting hotter all the time, so I think we need more street trees to counteract the heat sink that the bitumen and the concrete and everything creates,” he said.
“I’ve been able to purchase some trees and it’s been subsidised by the government.
“I’m going to do some tree planting with my son and my neighbours and other members of my community.
“It’s been really gratifying.”
Mr Owen said residents should make the most of the program as soon as possible.
“It’s spring at the moment as well,” he said. “It’s the best time of the year to get out there and plant trees.”
