Working with worm farms at the garden
1 min read

¶ ATTENDEES learned the ins and outs of worm farms at an Our Community Garden information session last Friday.
It was the first of a series of free sessions the garden is planning, focused on good gardening practices.
Helen Smart, who ran the session, said the garden was recently given three worm farms, which it is now putting to use.
Mrs Smart said worm farms can be used to recycle food scraps, turning organic waste into fertiliser, however it is important to use the right type of waste.
“We want to be organic vegetable growers, and we’ve got to make sure that we nourish the plants that we plant,” she said.
“To help, we want to inform our members and also open up these sessions to anyone in the area who would like to come down and listen.
“They can come and see what we do. They might like to join in and help out. There’s always something to do.”
