¶ COLLIE has won bronze in the WA Top Tourism Town Awards for the third year running, further cementing its reputation as a tourist destination.
Collie came up against Fremantle, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie-Boulder in the final, with Fremantle taking gold ahead of runner-up Geraldton.
The winners were announced by the Tourism Council WA at an awards ceremony last week.
Collie Visitor Centre manager Kerrin Michalak said the award is a testament to the collective efforts of the town.
“To be recognised three years in a row is a huge honour for our community,” Ms Michalak said.
“It reflects the passion of our local businesses and residents who proudly share everything Collie has to offer - from world-class trails and mural art, to our rich coal mining history and stunning natural landscapes.”
The judges focused on a variety of different criteria, including tourism marketing, visitor experience and community collaboration.
Collie has in recent years been growing its reputation as a nature-based adventure destination.
“We’re so proud to be part of this journey and grateful for the support of our local tourism and hospitality operators, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, the Shire of Collie and every visitor who helps put Collie on the map,” Ms Michalak added.
The Visitor Centre prepared Collie’s entry in partnership with the shire, thanks to the South32 Worsley Alumina Tourism Partnership Initiative, supporting the development of local tourism.
