¶ AN INITIAL investigation into a chlorine gas leak at the Mineworkers’ Memorial Pool has been completed however details have yet to be released.
The leak, which led to the hospitalisation of a staff member and the closure of a section of Throssell Street, resulted in Collie Shire closing the pool early for the season.
A WorkSafe petroleum safety and dangerous goods spokesperson did not confirm if the cause of the leak has been identified.
“WorkSafe dangerous goods inspectors have completed the initial phase of the investigation,” the spokesperson said.
“However, this requires internal review prior to the release of information on the cause of the leak or other outcomes.”
The investigation will be completed in approximately four to six months, the spokesperson added.
The shire confirmed the cylinder will not be moved until the authorities have completed their work.
Fire and Rescue Service crews were dispatched to the pool shortly before 7pm on March 16 following multiple triple zero calls.
A specialist team was subsequently flown by helicopter from Perth to deal with the incident.
The leak, which is believed to be the first of its kind in WA, was contained and brought under control at 3am the following day.
