¶ ALLANSON resident Beth Peters is appealing for information after glass memorial domes were recently taken from Collie Cemetery.
Mrs Peters said she noticed the domes had been removed from graves when visiting the cemetery to lay flowers and clean around family graves on Mother’s Day.
“One of the graves belonged to my grandparents, Frederick and Annie Buckle, who passed away in 1951 and 1954, in the old part of the Catholic portion of the cemetery,” she said.
“During cleaning, I was shocked to see that eight glass domes, which had been on this grave for 74 years, were no longer there.
“I was extremely emotional that they had been removed as they are part of my memory of visiting the site.”
Domes have been removed from other graves in the area, however there are no signs of vandalism.
Given the size and number of domes taken, Mrs Peters believes a vehicle must have been used.
She said it is important to let other residents, who may infrequently visit graves at the cemetery, know that the domes have been removed.
Collie Shire confirmed the domes were not removed by workers as part of maintenance or cleaning of the area.
Mrs Peters has pleaded for their return.
“I hope that a member of the public may be able to shed some light on this mystery and assist,” she said.
“These items are of no value to anyone other than the families of those visiting.
“If you know anything about this, please reach out as I’d love them returned.”
