¶ ORGANISERS are gearing up for a busy and varied Collie Creates arts festival in September.
Committee president Karen Turner said preparations are “coming together really well”.
An exhibition at the Collie Art Gallery will launch on Friday, September 12, featuring works by local artists who have entered the festival’s visual arts competition.
The competition’s theme is “Colliecentric”, with artists of all ages and abilities encouraged to share their interpretations of Collie, whether through painting, sculpture, photography, textiles or other mediums.
The exhibition will run through to October 19.
On Saturday, September 13 a market day will be staged in Finlay Gardens, next to the gallery, featuring art, music and live entertainment.
“The market is for anyone who makes something themselves,” Ms Turner said.
“We’ve also got some fantastic food trucks coming to Collie and think this will be a great drawcard.
“It will be a fantastic day. We really want to do this for everyone in the community.”
A gala dinner and art auction will be held the following weekend, on Saturday, September 20, at the Collie Ridge Resort, featuring a three-course sit-down dinner, live entertainment and performers including a conjuror and caricaturist.
Ms Turner said there will also be multiple workshops staged during Collie Creates, including paint and sips and paper flower making.
